about

This is a side project I did to study Chiptune. None of this album is a sound-alike, all of it is written entirely in Famitracker. Theoretically it could be played on any console from the NES generation of consoles that could have/has an MMC5 expansion chip. If anyone desperately wants NSF files of this, feel free to contact me and I can compile them and distribute them.

EDIT: NSF is now included in the download

The Story:

#1:
Another peaceful night in Homesweet Village (no one ever really
questions the name, honestly). The stars shine above the calm
rural village, as everyone lays down to sleep. Except you. You're
planning your next great adventure, mostly out of insomnia
(whatever that is). In the distance you hear an approaching
noise that sounds suspiciously... evil. And also deadly. But
definitely evil. The angry whirring of cogs and machinery
approaches the village.

#2:
Unfortunately, as cliche as it is, it's truly not a peaceful
night in Homesweet Village. The mechs overwhelm the village,
tearing it to shreds, pillaging everything, and doing other
relatively evil things. You managed to escape before the
entire village is turned into ash, along with the inhabitants.
You follow the robots back to wherever they had come from.
Turns out, it's a very evil looking castle. Who would have guessed?
(Me, I wrote this) (Also you, as it was kinda obvious, not gonna lie)

#3:
As you approach the castle, you hear a cacophony of clanking
and other machine like noises from inside. You push open the
old, cracked oaken door and are bombarded with said cacophonic
soundscape. The walls, ceiling, and even some of the floor is
COVERED in machinery. Whirring motors turn thousands of loud,
rusted gears (which were likely causing said cacophony, but
who's pointing fingers here anyway?) You cautiously, so as to
not get turned into freshly ground human, enter into the strange
building. You notice a large mech lying dormant in the huge
entrance hall, and think not much of it.

After going through the castle and pocketing anything that isn't
nailed down and killing everything that opposes to that,
you hear the entire building begin to collapse. As you rush out
the door, the entire castle is reduced to rubble behind you.

#4:
As the dust from the collapse of the massive castle settle, you
hear a whirring coming from the general area of where the
dormant mech was. Surprise! It's just a bird.

Just kidding, that mech is activated.

And angry.

Very angry.

Specifically angry at you.

And it looks eager to turn you into a human pancake.

Nice job.

Ending (omitted because it would have just been the FF victory theme lol):
Somehow, miraculously, you managed to destroy the incredibly
angry and well equipped mech. And, as a bonus, you managed to
avoid become significantly more flat than you already are. Color
me impressed (or not, I did write this story with a happy ending
on purpose. And also, I wrote this story.) Now you're the hero
of Homesweet Villa- well, New Homesweet Village, that is.
After it getting reduced to dust, everyone managed to rebuild it
while you were out adventuring and putting down the Holy
Hammer of Vengeance on the evil robots.

The End.

Or is it?
